The Twelve Days of Gift-Mas, 8 Maids a Milking

I love this time of the year. I love driving around and seeing all of the decorations on houses. I love going into Manhattan to see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and walking along 5th Ave to see all the stores and their decorated store windows. It's the time of the year when people get into the holiday spirit and do things for each other. When the idea of this blog hop was presented by http://www.makingitteacher.com I got really excited about joining some of my fellow secondary teachers in this generous endeavor.

While the holidays are an exciting time of the year for so many people, it  is also a stressful time of the year. If you haven't finished your shopping yet, the stores are crowded and full of agitated people. People lose their holiday spirit and fight over parking spots and other silly things. Who wants to deal with the stress of going to a crowded mall and then come home and write lesson plans? Every day during this blog hop, generous middle school and high school teachers are offering free items and today is my turn. I have decided to list three items from my TpT store for free for 24 hours. The links are posted below. Please download these items while they're free and hopefully they will save you time so that you can go holiday shopping, spend time with your family, decorate your house or any of the other things we need to do this time of the year. I hope you enjoy what I have decided to offer.

Item #1

Over 250 Writing Prompts/Journal Topics

Item #2

100 Journal Topics

Item #3

Assorted Handouts and Activities for The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Now for a contest. This is my first blog hop and I have decided to do a contest in addition to offering three free items. The person that wins this contest will get a $25 shopping spree in my TpT Store. In the comment section of this blog tell me the funniest thing that has ever happened in your classroom. Please leave the story along with your email address. I know this might sound a bit silly but I injured my foot yesterday and I could use some comic relief. I will check the comment section on December 13th which is the day after the blog hop ends and the person that has the funniest story in the comment section will win and get an email from me asking you what items you would like for free. Happy Holidays :-)

  1. Thanks so much for the freebies, Tammy! I hope your foot is feeling better! I've had some pretty crazy things happen in my classroom, but probably the funniest was when one of my more "difficult" students, who had a habit of leaning back in his desk often, fell backwards. I had just told him to stop for the umpteenth time and he replied, "I'm not gonna faaaaaaa-" then tumbled to the ground backwards, with his books falling on his face, his feet straight up in the air. The rest of the class and I laughed so hard, but I managed to get over there to see if he was OK. He was laughing and said he seriously didn't think that kind of desk could fall. "You haven't had physics yet, have you?" We laughed some more and he never did lean back in his chair the rest of the year.

    Happy Holidays, Tammy!

    1. You're welcome. That is pretty funny. I tell kids all the time not to lean back in their seats as well. I hope you downloaded both sets of writing prompts. They're different from each other.

  2. I too have had the kids fall off their chairs whilst leaning, I've also had two break this year! The funniest thing would be the fan in my classroom which though I thought I had turned onto high the students were complaining for me to turn the fan up. After ignoring their complaints for a while I told them that the the fan was on high and was quickly rebuffed, much to my embarassment. It turns out that fans here don't work quite the same as those at home and instead one is the most powerful and five the least! I'm glad I figured that one out early in the term!

Thanks for a great giveaway :)

  3. Hmmm....funniest moment?

I was sharing a pun website that I found with the class. I had examined the site the night before but didn't realize it was updated daily. So we're going through reading and understanding the puns when I am scrolling ahead and saw the next one. (Mind you, this is being projected onto the SMARTBoard.) As I'm talking and reading ahead, I realize the point of the next one is that it uses the word ass. Well, I didn't want to draw attention so I seamlessly (in my mind) skipped it and went down further on the page. Luckily my class was totally ADD that year and didn't pay attention anyway. I emailed all the parents and told them what had happened and I got one response that said "yep, she read it ahead of you and was wondering exactly how you were going to handle that!" Needless to say, I haven't used that site since. I wish I remembered the pun...it was pretty funny. :o)
